The First Brush 7 Around 1974, Aldie VFD placed it's first brush unit in-service. This International pickup was the only green piece of apparatus ever owned by Aldie, and it was eventually painted red by the firemen. It was sold in 1980 to the Milton Gulick Farm. Shown here spraying water in the parking lot of Aldie Elementary School are (from left) Buzzy Carter, Jeff Flippo, and James Sudduth. Photo credit unknown. |

| | | Aldie's First Fire Engine
This used 1948 Chevrolet fire engine was Aldie VFD's first fire engine. This engine cost $5500, and served Aldie until 1972 when it was destroyed by flash flooding during Tropical Storm Agnes. Photo credit unknown.

| | | Agnes Flood Stage
In the months following Tropical Storm Agnes, the USGS and NOAA studied the flood levels. In this photo, (the original report has no legible photos), the 100-year flood stage is about 2.5 feet above the road surface at the immediate end of the bridge (roughly the top of the dumpster). The 500-year flood stage is about 6 feet above the road surface at the end of the bridge, or roughly the top of the SUV that is crossing the bridge. The estimated stage of the Agnes flood was at midpoint between 100-year and 500-year stages. Photo by Mike Carter.
